{"id":452,"date":"2014-06-04T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2014-06-04T09:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/?p=452"},"modified":"2014-06-01T05:27:37","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T05:27:37","slug":"wayback-wednesday-vintage-jarsofclay-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/2014\/06\/04\/wayback-wednesday-vintage-jarsofclay-com\/","title":{"rendered":"Wayback Wednesday: Vintage Jarsofclay.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For this week&#8217;s <em>Wayback Wednesday<\/em>, we&#8217;re going to have a little bit of fun with archive.org&#8217;s aptly-titled <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/web\/\">Wayback Machine<\/a>!\u00a0The <em>Wayback Machine<\/em> is an archive of previous iterations of the web, and there are some fun versions of jarsofclay.com saved there&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-453 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/oldsite-272x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/oldsite-272x300.jpg 272w, http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/oldsite-136x150.jpg 136w, http:\/\/jarchives.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/oldsite.jpg 581w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not much remains of the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/19961221020636\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">original website<\/a> from <strong>1996<\/strong>, but there&#8217;s some fun &#8220;news&#8221; about the band&#8217;s\u00a0Coca-Cola jingle. (Careful, you might want to make sure you&#8217;re using <em>at least<\/em>\u00a0Netscape 3.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0\u00a0before you click!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We also have very little of their <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/19971210175012\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a> from <strong>1997<\/strong>, but you might remember the iconic <em>Much Afraid<\/em>-era couch photo and funky page titles like &#8220;the dirt&#8221; and &#8220;swag and threads&#8221;&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Bits and pieces of the <em>If I Left the Zoo<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20000303022409\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a> have survived from <strong>1999-2000<\/strong>, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20000304085806\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/zoo\/letter.html\">letter from the band<\/a> to fans just prior to the album&#8217;s release.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Unfortunately, in <strong>2002<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20021128213445\/http:\/\/jarsofclay.com\/\">the site went flash-based<\/a>, so we don&#8217;t have anything from the <em>Eleventh Hour<\/em> era.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The same is true for their <strong>2003<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20031231192528\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a> for <em>Who We Are Instead<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Thankfully, the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20050326004851\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">flash container<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0<strong>2005<\/strong> Redemption Songs website was archived! Although the site&#8217;s content is inaccessible, it&#8217;s still fun to poke around and see how everything functioned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A good deal of the <strong>2006<\/strong> Good Monsters <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20061230074758\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a>\u00a0was saved, too.\u00a0This version of the site linked to our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jarchives.websitetoolbox.com\/\">forum<\/a> as the band&#8217;s message board!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the band went independent, their website became <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20081028013628\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">much more quirky<\/a>. The <strong>2008<\/strong> website featured an interactive head. Take a look and you&#8217;ll see what we mean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The band&#8217;s <strong>2010<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20101122220610\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a> for <em>The Shelter<\/em> took on a more practical, blog-like format.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>By <strong>2012<\/strong>, the band&#8217;s official <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20121115150716\/http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\/\">website<\/a> settled down as a content-rich landing page, pointing visitors to various sources for news, music, videos, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And of course, don&#8217;t forget to visit <strong>today<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jarsofclay.com\">official website<\/a>\u00a0for music, tour dates, and more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Is there something you&#8217;d like to see featured on Wayback Wednesday?
