May Freebie: Crazy Times (Seatbelt Tuba Version)

This month’s freebie is the Seatbelt Tuba version of Crazy Times, originally available on a limited 2-disc version of Much Afraid. The Seatbelt Tuba CD was recorded on July 3rd, 1997 as a bonus for fans who bought their copies of Much Afraid early. Here are a few words from engineer Rocky Schnaars about the project:

Upon completion of their project Much Afraid, Jars of Clay decided to give some of their fans a glimpse of the band’s musical roots. To do this they went into a Nashville studio to record some of the new songs acoustically.

My name is Rocky Schnaars and I am the engineer who recorded those sessions on July 3rd, 1997. It was decided to work at Quadraphonics Studios. It was also decided to keep the recording process very basic! No over-dubs allowed, no doubling of vocals – no fixing of focals, no fixing of wrong notes, no fixing of mixes – NO FIXES. We went into the studio and recorded live to 2 track digital recorder. Jars really wanted to keep it raw. So here it is in all its raw glory. We hope this record brings a smile to your heart and you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.
